InCannes

Independent reporting from the Côte d'Azur

Cookies

Reading InCannes sets no cookie on your machine. There is no audience measurement on the site, no advertising network and no social media pixel. This page explains the few cookies that can appear, what happens when you click an affiliate link and what will change if we add measurement.

What a normal visit sets

Nothing. Open any page on incannes.com as a reader and the server sends back no cookie at all. You can check it yourself in your browser's developer tools, under storage.

What can appear

Two things, neither of which concerns a reader. Signing in to the WordPress administration sets session cookies, which only the two of us ever do. Submitting the newsletter form can set a short-lived cookie used by the form software to confirm the submission went through.

Both are strictly necessary cookies in the sense the regulation uses. They need no consent banner because they do nothing beyond making the page work.

No audience measurement, for now

There is no Google Analytics on this site, no tag manager and no third party script that counts visits.

If we turn measurement on, a consent banner comes first and nothing is set before you choose. This page will name the tool, say what it stores and for how long, before the first measurement rather than after.

Affiliate links set cookies on the other site

InCannes is paid through affiliate links. Click one and you land on Booking.com, TheFork, Viator, GetYourGuide or an establishment's own site. That site sets its own cookies under its own policy, usually including one recording that the visit came from us. It is how the commission is attributed.

We cannot read those cookies and we do not try. What reaches us is a commission report showing bookings and amounts, with no names in it.

How this is handled editorially

Controlling cookies

Every browser lets you block cookies, delete the ones already stored and refuse third party cookies. Look under settings, then privacy. Blocking everything will not break InCannes, because the site does not need a single cookie to show you a page.

The rest of the data question

What we collect through the newsletter form, what the security plugin records and how to have any of it erased is on the privacy page.
