InCannes

Independent reporting from the Côte d'Azur

About InCannes

InCannes is an independent publication about Cannes and the French Riviera, written in English by two people who live here. We cover hotels, tables, the sea, villas, the season and the detours worth taking. We pay our own way, we take no press trips and we declare every affiliate link.

Why the site exists

Cannes is covered badly. The city gets written about during the Festival and then goes quiet. Most of what appears in between comes from people who were here for a weekend or not at all. Rankings get recycled. Press releases get reprinted with the adjectives left in.

The town keeps running the rest of the year. A palace changes its chef. A beach club changes hands. A street that was shuttered in January fills up by Easter. InCannes is the version a local would give you: which hotel earns the rate and which one is coasting on the address, which table is worth the wait, what a day on the water actually involves once the brochure stops talking.

Who writes it

Two people. One came from Paris, where a new address opens every month and the service either works or it does not. He notices an understaffed front desk, a check that never arrives and a room sold as something it is not. The other grew up in Aix-en-Provence. She reads a room first: how it looks, how it sounds, how you are treated when you walk in without a reservation anyone recognizes.

The two readings do not always agree, which is the useful part. A place that works for one of us and not the other gets said exactly that way.

Why we do not sign our names

We publish without bylines. It is a choice, not a precaution.

A name opens doors. A door that opens on the strength of a name does not show you what the place does for everyone else. We want the table we are given when nobody is expecting us, the room the booking engine assigns, the welcome a stranger gets. That only works anonymously.

The rest is simpler. What we saw and what we paid is the evidence on this site. The names attached to it would not make a room worth the rate.

Everything that matters for trust is on the record anyway: how we choose, who pays, what the affiliate links do and what happens when we get something wrong.

What we cover

Six subjects. Stay, for hotels and the rooms worth their rate. Tables, for where locals book and what to order. Yachts & Sea, for charters, anchorages and what a day on the water involves. Villas & Apartments, for the private addresses and how to reach them. The Season, for the Festival, the Yachting Festival and how to work around them. Experiences, for the day trips and coastal paths worth the detour.

Cannes first, then the coast around it: Antibes, Mougins, the Lérins islands, Monaco, Saint-Tropez. The site is in English for now. French follows once the English edition stands on its own.

How the site makes money

Affiliate commissions, nothing else so far. When a reader books a hotel, a table or an experience through a link here, the platform pays InCannes a share of its own margin. The reader's price does not change.

No banner advertising. No sponsored posts. No paid listings. If any of that ever starts, it gets labeled on the page where it appears. The full rules are in the editorial charter.

How to reach us

One address reaches both of us. Corrections, a room that is no longer what we described, a table that changed chef: send it and we fix the page.

We read everything. We do not accept press trips, gifted stays or coverage requests, so a pitch of that kind gets a short answer.
